The intense battle for the Liga BBVA title is also being reflected in the fight to become the competition’s top scorer. Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi, the spearheads of Real Madrid and Barcelona’s attacks are in a straight shootout for the gong, with the Portuguese currently leading.
The Madrid man has 39 goals, despite not scoring against Almería. Ronaldo tried his best against Sergi Barjuán’s side, however he could not find a way past Rubén Martínez. Leo Messi, meanwhile, scored twice against Getafe at the Camp Nou, and now has 38 goals, just one behind the Portugal international.
Behind them the race for third is also tight. Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is currently there with 22 goals, despite not scoring this time round against Villarreal. Neymar is close to the Frenchman, and the Brazilian made it 20 for the season with his strikes in Barça’s win against Getafe.
Carlos Bacca of Sevilla is hot on their tails and in red-hot form. The Colombian was key in his side’s 1-3 win away to Eibar, scoring twice and teeing one up. The South American hotshot has 19 goals and will be hoping to catch the Frenchman.
